(“Pender”), the Manager of the Pender mutual funds, is pleased to announce that it has been recognized for superior, risk-adjusted fund performance during 2015 at the Fundata FundGrade A+ Awards, held in Toronto on January 21, 2016.

The Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund (the “Fund”) received a 2015 FundGrade A+ Award in the Canadian Focused Small/Mid Cap Equity category. This is the fourth year in a row that the Fund has received this award.

Being awarded a FundGrade A+ Award becomes more meaningful as you understand the methodology of the FundGrade system.

Using risk-adjusted performance metrics, the FundGrade system ranks Canadian mutual funds with grades on a monthly basis during the year. Monthly data then contributes to the awarding of a FundGrade A+ designation at the end of the year to the “best of the best” funds which have achieved exceptional performance compared to peers.

The FundGrade system is completely objective and was designed not just to rank performance within a peer group. The rolling monthly performance history means the A+ only goes to the most consistent funds within the group and rewarding risk-adjusted performance gives investors additional insight to inform their investment decisions.

“This award, with its multi-layered measurement system, really reflects what David Barr and his investment team are working to achieve at Pender. Consistent, risk-adjusted returns,” said Kelly Edmison, President of Pender. “Congratulations to them all for this fourth, independent and well-deserved accolade.”

About the Pender Small Cap Opportunities Fund

The Fund was launched on June 1, 2009. It is an opportunistic, concentrated portfolio of undervalued small and microcap companies predominantly in Canada. The Manager looks for out-of-favour market-leading businesses with strong underlying economics and management teams. Taking advantage of market inefficiencies, these businesses are purchased with a margin-of-safety, or discount to intrinsic value, to minimise downside risk and provide a longer runway to potential capital appreciation. Portfolio holdings include special situations and M & A candidates.
